Caleb Mutfwang is the current Executive Governor of Plateau State and a Nigerian lawyer and politician.

He was sworn in as governor on May 29, 2023, after winning the election.

Mutfwang formerly served as Chairman of Plateau State’s Mangu Local Government Area before running for governor.

Early Life

Caleb Mutfwang was born in Wussasa, Zaria, on March 12, 1965. From 1973 to 1977, he attended LEA Elementary School Ampang-West in Mangu LGA, where he completed his elementary education.

He then attended Boys Secondary School in Gindiri, where he graduated in 1982. The Federal Office of Statistics and the now-defunct Nigerian Bank for Commerce and Industry (NBCI) were the employers of Caleb at that time.

But his desire to learn persisted, and from 1983 to 1984 he enrolled in the School of Preliminary Studies in Keffi.

From 1984 through 1988, Caleb attended the University of Jos to pursue his education. On December 14, 1989, he was admitted to the Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court after completing his study there.

Caleb also completed the required National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in Kaduna State, where he was chosen President of the Nigerian Christian Corps’ Fellowship in Kaduna State by his fellow participants.

Career and Politics

From 1990 until 1995, Caleb Mutfwang worked as a member of the prestigious Kaduna-based law firm BYOMA, ICHABA & CO (FIDELITY CHAMBERS).

Building on his knowledge and experience, he started his own firm, Caleb Mutfwang & Co, a registered firm of Legal Practitioners with the Corporate Affairs Commission, on March 21, 1996.

Caleb’s legal knowledge earned him the position of Deputy General Manager of Legal & Secretarial Services at Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited in Kaduna in 2002.

He held this role until 2004 when he was also the Acting Company Secretary.

Caleb Mutfwang is a respected member of numerous professional organizations, including the Nigerian Bar Association, where he serves on the Section on Business Law.

He is also a member of the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Christian Lawyers’ Fellowship, the Christian Legal Society of America, and the Nigerian Institute of Management.

Caleb also holds a degree from Hawaii’s esteemed Haggai Institute for Leadership Development. Since he has held several leadership positions since secondary school and during his time in the NYSC, his knowledge and leadership abilities go beyond the legal field.

He has also held important leadership positions within the Church and society, serving on the Karl Kumm University’s Endowment Fund Committee, which was established by the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN).

Personal Life

Helen Mutfwang, formerly Helen Ingbo Goldie, and Caleb Mutfwang are happily married and have three children together: Timothy, Nanbam, and Enoch.

Although John and Juliet Goldie gave birth to Helen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, she is truly from Bayelsa State. She is employed as a lawyer. On February 13th, 1993, they married.
