Dauda Lawal was hired as an assistant consular officer (immigration) in 1994 and then promoted to chief protocol officer at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, D.C. He started working for First Bank of Nigeria Plc as a relationship manager in 2003 and has held various senior management positions at the Abuja Area office. After holding various positions, he was promoted to executive vice president, public sector, North of First Bank of Nigeria Plc, in 2011. 2012, he was named First Bank of Nigeria Plc’s North public sector executive director. Dauda Lawal later entered politics, running against Idris Shehu Mukhtar in the APC primary election for governor of Zamfara in 2018. He ran for and won the position of governor of Zamfara state under the People Democratic Party in the 2023 Zamfara state gubernatorial election.
