Hailing from a humble background, Ismail’s parents, Yaakob Abdul Rahman and Wan Jah Wan Mamat, originally belonged to Kelantan.

Career

In 1985, Ismail embarked on his journey into the legal profession, commencing his career as a lawyer.

Continuing to excel in his field, in 1995, he was honoured with the appointment of Political Secretary to the Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism.

In 2004, Ismail was elected a Member of Parliament (MP) for Bera, Pahang. Following his election, he was appointed the Minister for Youth and Sports in 2008.

He held this position until 2009, when he was appointed Minister for Domestic Trade, Co-operatives, and Consumerism, a role he served until 2013.

From 2013 to 2015, Ismail took on the responsibility of Minister for Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry.
