After completing his NYSC with the Federal Ministry of Works in Lagos in 1989, he joined PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as an audit trainee and later qualified as a Chartered Accountant. His transition into commercial banking came in 1993 when he joined Diamond Bank Plc, where he served in various senior capacities and built a strong foundation in financial management.
In 2004, he moved to Zenith Bank Plc as General Manager, overseeing the Lagos Zone. His career accelerated quickly, and by 2006, he had been appointed Executive Director for Lagos and the South-West, making him one of the youngest executive directors in the banking sector at the time. He later assumed responsibility for the South-South, South-East, and Abuja/FCT regions, solidifying his reputation as a skilled strategist and administrator.
His expertise earned him a major appointment in May 2013 as Secretary to the Board and member of the Executive Committee of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), a premier pan-African multilateral development finance institution.
Alongside this role, he served on the boards of several Zenith Bank subsidiaries, including Zenith Bank Ghana, Zenith Bank UK, Zenith Bank Sierra Leone, Zenith Bank Gambia, and Zenith Pensions Custodian Limited. Throughout his career, he became widely known for his financial discipline, vision, and operational excellence—qualities that later shaped his image in public service.

Since leaving office in 2023, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has remained active in public service, business, and philanthropy, continuing to play a significant role within the PDP and maintaining strong influence in Akwa Ibom’s political landscape.
