Career

In 1984, he made his senior debut for South Melbourne and became an integral part of the club by playing a whopping 193 games.

During his time there, he achieved remarkable victories, securing two NSL championships in the 1984 and 1990–91 seasons. Additionally, Postecoglou proudly represented Australia at the U-17 and U-20 levels, further solidifying his skills on an international platform.

Ange Postecoglou‘s coaching career commenced in 1996 at South Melbourne, where he achieved success by clinching two NSL championships in 1997–98 and 1998–99. Furthermore, under his guidance, the club triumphed in the Oceania Club Championship in 1999, earning them a spot in the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup.

Postecoglou became the Australian U-20 team’s head coach in 2000. For seven years, he led the squad to the FIFA U-20 World Cups in 2001 and 2005. In 2007, Postecoglou relocated to Greece, where he assumed the head coach role for Panachaiki. After spending a season with the team, he returned to Australia in 2009 to take on the head coach position for Brisbane Roar.

Under Ange Postecoglou‘s leadership, Brisbane Roar achieved remarkable success by clinching the A-League Premiership in 2011 and securing the Championship title in 2011–12. Moreover, his outstanding managerial skills earned him recognition as the A-League Manager of the Year in 2010–11.

Postecoglou‘s appointment as the head coach of the Australian national team occurred in 2013. Under his guidance, the team succeeded by winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. His excellent coaching skills were acknowledged when he received the prestigious title of AFC Men’s Coach of the Year in 2015.

Postecoglou made his way to Japan in 2017, assuming the head coach role for Yokohama F. Marinos. Under his guidance, the team succeeded and secured the J1 League championship in 2019. More recently, in 2021, Postecoglou moved to Scotland, where he took over as the head coach of Celtic.
