Emily Seebohm’s international debut came as a 14-year-old at the 2007 World Championships, where she earned relay gold and set a world record in the medley relay.
She quickly became one of Australia’s elite backstroke specialists, securing Olympic gold in the 4×100m medley relay in Beijing (2008), silver in the 100m backstroke in London (2012), and continued to medal in Tokyo (2021) with a bronze in the 200m backstroke and another medley relay gold.
At the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, she defended her 200m backstroke title with a national record, marking Australia’s first swimming gold of that event.
Across her career she amassed seven Olympic medals, five world championship gold medals, four world records (including in relays), 15 Commonwealth Games medals, and an astounding 178 World Cup medals.
