Francis Ngannou, a remarkably talented athlete, was born on September 5, 1989, in the humble village of Batié in Cameroon. Growing up in abject poverty, he faced numerous challenges and had limited access to formal education. 

At the tender age of six, Francis Ngannou‘s parents, Emmanuel Fosso and Mamma Ngannou, divorced, which resulted in him being sent to live with his aunt. Unfortunately, there is a lack of information available regarding his siblings.

Career

After starting his MMA journey in November 2013, Francis Ngannou primarily competed in the renowned French promotion 100% Fight alongside various other regional promotions across Europe. With an impressive record of 5 wins and 1 loss, he eventually caught the attention of the UFC and was signed by them.

After joining the UFC in December 2015, Ngannou swiftly gained a reputation for his impressive strength and knockout skills. He achieved a remarkable record by winning his initial six UFC fights, all through knockouts or TKOs. Despite suffering a loss against Derrick Lewis in July 2018, Ngannou showed resilience by securing two consecutive victories, one of which was a knockout against Curtis Blaydes in November of the same year.

Francis Ngannou encountered Stipe Miocic in January 2019 to compete for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Unfortunately, he was defeated in the fight through a unanimous decision. Nonetheless, Ngannou‘s perseverance paid off as he secured a rematch opportunity by emerging victorious in his next two bouts.

Ngannou reclaimed the UFC Heavyweight Championship in March 2021 when he faced Miocic for the second time. Displaying his dominance, Ngannou secured a knockout victory during the second round, earning him the title of UFC Heavyweight Champion. He successfully defended his championship once in January 2022, emerging victorious over Ciryl Gane with a unanimous decision.

Francis Ngannou joined the PFL in December 2022 after being unable to come to terms on a new contract with the UFC. His move to the PFL means he will now compete in the heavyweight division.

Following his interest in boxing, Ngannou recently ventured into the sport by signing a multi-fight contract with Bare Knuckle FC, a renowned bare-knuckle boxing promotion. Fans can anticipate his debut in late 2023 as he embarks on this new career chapter.

On October 28, 2023, in Riyadh, a highly anticipated boxing match occurred between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou. Despite being a former UFC heavyweight champion, Ngannou was stepping into the world of professional boxing for the first time.

Surprisingly, in the third round, Francis Ngannou knocked down Fury, creating excitement among spectators. However, to the disappointment of Ngannou and his supporters, Fury managed to escape defeat and secure a controversial split-decision victory.
