Jayson Christopher Tatum, born on March 3, 1998, is a professional basketball player from America who currently plays for the Boston Celtics in the NBA.

He was recognized as a McDonald’s All-American during his high school years in Missouri and went on to play college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils.

In the 2017 NBA draft, Tatum was chosen as the third overall pick by the Boston Celtics and was later honored with a spot on the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2018.

Jayson Christopher Tatum, now at the age of 26, was born on March 3, 1998, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Justin Tatum and Brandy Cole. Tatum was a student at Chaminade College Preparatory School in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

During his freshman year, he averaged 13.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game and was honored as the 2013 Metro Catholic Conference (MCC) Co-Player of the Year. He led the Red Devils to victory in both MCC and Missouri District 2.

In his sophomore year, he averaged 26.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. In his junior year, Tatum’s averages were 25.9 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, earning him Second-team Naismith Trophy All-American honors. He then joined the St. Louis Eagles Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team and excelled in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) Circuit.

Tatum is the godson of Larry Hughes, a former NBA player who was his father’s high school and college teammate. Additionally, he is related to Tyronn Lue, a former NBA player and the current head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers.


During the 2017 NBA draft, Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge traded the team’s top pick to the Philadelphia 76ers in the hopes of acquiring another valuable draft pick and still being able to select the player they wanted, Tatum. They ended up choosing him with the third overall pick, which they received from Philadelphia.

Tatum showcased his skills during the 2017 NBA Summer League, averaging 18.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 2.0 assists in Utah, and similar results in Las Vegas.

He made an impressive NBA debut with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Throughout the season, Tatum continued to make an impact and was named the Eastern Conference’s Rookie of the Month for December 2017.
