Lee Kyou-hyuk was born on March 16, 1978, in Seoul, South Korea.

Growing up in the household of Lee Ik Hwan and Lee In Suke, he was introduced to skating at a young age through a family with a strong sporting background. Lee is of Korean ethnicity.
