Growing up in a family where baseball was a major part of everyday life gave Luisangel an early introduction to the sport.
His older brother, Ronald Acuña Jr., went on to become one of the biggest stars in Major League Baseball, winning the National League Most Valuable Player award in 2023. His other brothers also pursued professional baseball, making the sport an important part of the family’s identity.
Although Luisangel and Ronald Jr. did not always live in the same home during their childhood, they remained connected through their shared interest in baseball and regularly played together when opportunities arose.
Acuña developed his skills in Venezuela, where he received early baseball training before entering the professional development system.
Unlike many American players who follow a traditional path through high school and college baseball, he pursued professional opportunities as a teenager.

His performances attracted attention from other major league organisations, and in July 2023, the Texas Rangers traded him to the New York Mets as part of the deal that brought veteran pitcher Max Scherzer to Texas. The trade provided Acuña with a new opportunity to continue his development within the Mets organisation.
On September 14, 2024, Acuña made his Major League Baseball debut with the New York Mets. He quickly attracted attention for his speed and ability to contribute at several defensive positions.
His versatility allowed the team to use him in different infield roles, while his baserunning gave the Mets another option for creating scoring opportunities.
During the 2025 season, Acuña continued moving between the major league roster and Triple-A as he worked toward securing a more regular role. On January 20, 2026, he was traded by the Mets to the Chicago White Sox, giving him a fresh opportunity to develop with another major league organisation.
