Maksim Mirnyi turned professional in 1996. Early in his career he competed in both singles and doubles; his best singles ranking was world No. 18 (achieved August 18 2003). He won one ATP singles title (the 2003 Rotterdam Open) and made his mark more prominently in doubles.
In doubles, Mirnyi reached world No. 1 on June 9, 2003. Over his career he won 52 ATP doubles titles. He captured six men’s doubles Grand Slam titles and five mixed doubles Grand Slam titles (see Grand Slam record). At the 2012 London Olympics, he served as Belarus’s flag-bearer and won the gold medal in mixed doubles with Victoria Azarenka.
