Early Life & Education

Sydel Curry was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States, on October 20, 1994, into a famous athletic family. 

While the family’s male members were naturally gifted basketball players, her mother, Sonya Curry, had experience playing competitive sports. Her effect on Sydel Curry‘s decision to switch from basketball to volleyball at such a young age may have been because she was a former volleyball player at Virginia Tech University. She started out by enrolling in her mother’s Montessori school. She relocated to Toronto with her father when she was 7 years old since he had joined the Toronto Raptors (for whom he played his final three NBA seasons).

Her father, Dell Curry, was a renowned American former professional basketball player. She has two brothers: Seth Curry and Stephen Curry, who are also sportspeople.

Sydel Curry started her elementary education at the Queensway Christian College in Etobicoke, Ontario, but her stay in Canada was brief—just one year. The family returned to North Carolina once Dell Curry‘s time with the Toronto Raptors ended in 2002.

This talented child returned from Canada, where Sydel Curry had spent a considerable amount of time, and followed in the footsteps of her brothers by enrolling at the Charlotte Christian School, located in North Carolina. . It was here that she developed a love for volleyball and became well-known.

Similar to her mother, she began middle school by balancing basketball and volleyball while succeeding at both. It was only a matter of time until the inevitable choice was made regarding what to keep and discard. Sydel Curry had to decide because the club volleyball and basketball seasons fell during the same period. After giving it some thought, she chose volleyball because it was her greatest passion. 

She was a standout volleyball player in high school, inspiring her squad to new heights as a starter and winning awards along the way. She served as team captain for three of the four years she was a member of the Charlotte Christian squad. She had a crucial role in the winning streak that helped CCS surpass the record for most wins in a season in 2012. 

Sydel Curry received numerous NCISAA honors (was a four-time CISAA All-Conference pick and a two-time NCISAA All-State selection), in addition to which she competed for Carolina Union in 2012 and attended the nationals. 

Personal Life

NBA players Stephen Curry, who plays for the Golden State Warriors, and Seth Curry, who plays for the Brooklyn Nets, are both her older brothers. Sydel Curry wed NBA star Damion Lee in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 1st, 2018. 

Daxon Wardell-Xavier Lee, the couple’s firstborn, was born in 2021. Sydel Curry experienced numerous miscarriages before giving birth to her son.
