Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne, 43, has confirmed that he and 23-year-old social media personality Madi Cannon have ended their relationship, closing the door on months of speculation about an engagement neither party had formally acknowledged.

The rapper, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., addressed the breakup directly during a livestream this weekend, telling viewers that reports of an engagement to Cannon had never been accurate.

According to Lil Wayne, he had “a beautiful thing going with an amazing person,” but did not want to become “such a burden on such an amazing person.” Based on his tone during the stream, the decision to end things appears to have come from him.

Cannon, who also goes by the online handle Madi K, is a 23-year-old model and social media influencer from Kokomo, Indiana, a city better known for its manufacturing history than any tie to entertainment. Relatively little public information exists about her background, and she has kept a low profile throughout the months of tabloid attention surrounding her connection to the rapper.

Rumors that Lil Wayne and Cannon were involved first began circulating online in May 2026, but the pairing stayed largely out of public view for weeks. That changed when sports commentator Skip Bayless, a longtime friend of the rapper’s, posted a photograph of the two together during a visit to Lil Wayne’s home, captioning the image in a way that identified Cannon as his fiancée.

Cannon herself later shared an affectionate photo of the pair on her Instagram Story, captioned simply with heart emojis, which further fueled engagement speculation without ever confirming it outright.

Neither Lil Wayne nor Cannon issued a public statement addressing the rumored engagement at any point before the breakup announcement. The lack of confirmation did little to slow the story, however, as fan accounts and gossip outlets tracked new sightings of the couple, including at Lil Wayne’s tour stops.

The roughly 20-year age difference between Lil Wayne and Cannon became a significant part of the public conversation surrounding the relationship. Much of the commentary centered on the fact that Cannon, 23, is only a few years older than the rapper’s eldest daughter, Reginae Carter, who is 27.

Critics raised concerns about power dynamics in relationships with substantial age gaps, while others defended the pairing on the basis that both individuals were consenting adults entitled to privacy.

Lil Wayne has been married once, to Antonia “Toya” Johnson, known professionally as Toya Johnson, from 2004 to 2006; the two share daughter Reginae. He has since been engaged on two separate occasions, to singer Nivea and to model La’Tecia Thomas, though neither engagement led to marriage. He was also previously linked to model Denise Bidot in a relationship that ended around 2025.

The breakup comes amid a turbulent start to Lil Wayne’s 20 Years of Carter Classics tour, which began June 30. The rapper drew backlash after failing to appear for his tour opener in Bangor, Maine, later apologizing to fans on Instagram and announcing the show would be rescheduled for July 28.

He also showed up roughly two hours late to a subsequent performance in Gilford, New Hampshire, adding to a run of headlines about his conduct on the road. During the same livestream in which he addressed the split, Lil Wayne also spoke about the criticism he has faced over the missed and delayed shows.

Industry observers have noted that the timing of the breakup, arriving so soon after the tour’s rocky start, has added another layer of scrutiny to a stretch that was already generating significant attention for the rapper. His next scheduled stop is set for July 16 in Des Moines, Iowa.

At the time of publication, Madi Cannon had not issued any public response to the breakup.
