Dealers across major centres including Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt were exchanging the greenback at approximately ₦1,415 to buy and ₦1,428 to sell, according to figures tracked by parallel-market sources.

This placed the cost of one hundred dollars at roughly ₦141,500 on the buy side and ₦142,800 on the sell side. The official Central Bank of Nigeria rate hovered around ₦1,360 to ₦1,364 per dollar, leaving a premium of several percentage points between the two markets.

Traders attributed the day’s quotes to steady demand for foreign currency from importers and travelers, balanced by moderate dollar inflows from diaspora remittances and limited official interventions. Rates showed only minor day-to-day movement compared with the previous session, remaining within the broader ₦1,400 band that has characterized the parallel market in recent weeks.

Market participants noted that actual transaction prices can still differ slightly depending on location, transaction size and the particular dealer, a common feature of the informal forex segment.

The gap between the official and parallel rates continues to reflect underlying supply constraints and the preference of many Nigerians for cash dollars obtained outside the banking system. As of Wednesday morning, the naira therefore traded in the black market at the levels indicated above, giving individuals and businesses a clear snapshot of the street value of the dollar on 12 August 2026.
