The parallel market for the US dollar in Nigeria opened Wednesday with street dealers and Bureau de Change operators quoting the greenback at ₦1,390 to sell and ₦1,375 to buy, according to rates circulating across Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt.

That leaves a modest spread of ₦15 per dollar as traders continued to price the naira at a premium to the official window. The Central Bank of Nigeria’s latest published rate stood near ₦1,326.30, producing a gap of roughly ₦64 on the selling side, or about 4.6 percent.

Market participants described trading as relatively steady after the previous session, though some platforms noted a modest upward adjustment from mid-week quotes that had hovered closer to ₦1,380–₦1,383. Demand from importers, travellers and those settling school fees abroad kept pressure on available dollar notes.

At the same time, improved oil receipts and reported reserve levels of more than $54 billion provided a modest cushion at the official market.

Rates still vary by location, transaction size and time of day, so buyers and sellers are advised to compare several licensed operators before completing a deal. The unofficial market remains the reference point for many Nigerians who cannot readily access dollars through banks.
