Currency traders in Nigeria’s parallel market, commonly referred to as the Aboki FX segment, reported the US dollar selling at approximately ₦1,400 today, with buyers offering around ₦1,385 to ₦1,390 per unit.

This reflects a relatively stable position compared to yesterday’s levels, where the greenback had edged higher amid thin trading volumes. Dealers in major hubs such as Lagos, Abuja, and Kano noted consistent demand from importers and individuals seeking foreign exchange for travel and business needs.

However, supply remained moderate, preventing sharper movements in either direction. The spread between buying and selling rates stayed narrow at about ₦10 to ₦15, indicating balanced activity among bureau de change operators.

At the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, the naira traded close to ₦1,380 per dollar according to Central Bank of Nigeria figures, leaving a modest premium in the black market.

Analysts attribute the current calm to improved liquidity inflows from recent oil sales and diaspora remittances, though concerns over inflation and global commodity prices continue to influence sentiment.

Market watchers say participants are closely following policy signals from monetary authorities, particularly any adjustments aimed at narrowing the gap between official and parallel rates.

Some traders expressed optimism that sustained foreign inflows could support further stability in the coming days. In contrast, others cautioned that seasonal demand spikes might test the naira’s resilience later in the month.

For businesses and individuals planning transactions, experts recommend verifying rates with licensed operators, as parallel market quotes can fluctuate quickly based on location and volume.

The naira’s performance against other major currencies, including the pound and euro, mirrored the dollar trend with minimal shifts observed today.
