Aboki Naira to Dollar Black Market Exchange Rate Today, 4th August 2026
The parallel market for foreign exchange in Nigeria, widely referred to as the Aboki or black market, saw the United States dollar trading at elevated levels against the naira on Tuesday, 4th August 2026.
Currency dealers across major commercial hubs including Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt quoted the greenback at approximately ₦1,410 for purchases and between ₦1,415 and ₦1,425 for sales, with the precise figure depending on location, volume and the time of day.

This left the street rate noticeably higher than the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market window, where the naira changed hands around ₦1,368.22 to the dollar according to the latest volume-weighted data from the Central Bank of Nigeria. The resulting premium of roughly ₦45 to ₦57 per dollar underscored ongoing retail demand for hard currency even as the official market has shown greater calm in recent sessions.
Market participants attributed the parallel rates to steady pressure from importers settling invoices, families covering overseas education and medical costs, and individuals handling personal remittances. While supply in the informal segment remained available, it continued to lag behind immediate demand, keeping quotes clustered in the ₦1,410–₦1,425 band through the morning. At these levels, $100 would fetch about ₦141,000 to ₦142,500 on the street compared with roughly ₦136,822 through formal channels.
Observers noted that the naira has displayed relative steadiness compared with the sharper fluctuations experienced in previous years, yet the dual-market structure persists. Dealers reported brisk activity throughout the day as bureau de change operators and street traders facilitated transactions outside the banking system. Rates can still shift later in the session in response to fresh inflows or sudden spikes in demand, so market watchers continue to monitor liquidity conditions closely.
