The gap between the informal market and the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market remained noticeable. The Central Bank of Nigeria’s volume-weighted average rate closed near ₦1,362.55 per dollar in the previous session, leaving a premium of about ₦52 to ₦62 on the parallel market. Market watchers noted that rates can still vary slightly depending on the size of the transaction and the specific location, with some dealers quoting figures in the ₦1,410 to ₦1,425 band.
Analysts observed that the naira has traded in a relatively narrow range in recent weeks, supported by improved liquidity in the official window and ongoing central bank interventions.
Demand from importers, travelers and other end-users continues to keep pressure on the informal segment, even as the overall market shows greater stability compared with the sharper swings recorded in earlier periods. External reserves have also provided some buffer, contributing to the calmer tone.
Traders and businesses relying on the parallel market for foreign exchange are advised that rates fluctuate throughout the day and may differ across cities. The figures reported today reflect prevailing quotes from AbokiFX trackers and street-market sources as of the morning of 5th August 2026.
