The Nigerian naira traded in a narrow band against the United States dollar on the informal Aboki market on Thursday, 5 November 2026. Dealers in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt quoted ₦1,380 to ₦1,384 per dollar when buying cash from customers and ₦1,390 to ₦1,399 when selling.

At those quotes, a customer who handed over $100 received roughly ₦138,000 to ₦138,400, while a customer seeking the same $100 paid close to ₦139,000 to ₦139,900.

The official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market rate published by the Central Bank of Nigeria stood near ₦1,346 to ₦1,348 per dollar. That left a street premium of roughly ₦40 to ₦50 per dollar (about $0.03 at the official rate), or about 3 percent.

Demand from importers, students and travellers remained orderly rather than intense. It was supported by external reserves above $50 billion and steady foreign exchange inflows that have helped sustain official liquidity.

Quotes still differed slightly by location, trade volume and time of day, and operators noted that the informal rate can shift before the close of business. The gap between the official window and the parallel market has stayed comparatively narrow by recent historical standards, but cash transactions outside the banking system remain the practical benchmark for many users who cannot obtain dollars at the official rate.

Anyone planning an exchange was advised to confirm the live quote with a trusted bureau or dealer, since parallel-market prices are not uniform and can move on local supply and remittance inflows.
