The naira traded at a premium to the official window on the informal market on Monday, 7 September 2026, as street dealers known as Aboki continued to quote the dollar well above the Central Bank of Nigeria reference rate.

Parallel-market operators in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt were selling the greenback at about ₦1,410 and buying it at ₦1,400, according to aggregators that track Aboki quotes. That left a modest ₦10 spread on a dollar and a gap of roughly ₦89, or about 6.3 percent, versus the official rate of ₦1,321.22.

The same sources put 100 dollars at ₦141,000 on the sell side and ₦140,000 on the buy side. The official window remained comparatively stable after the naira closed the previous session near ₦1,321, a level that also reflected earlier weekly gains as reserves climbed above $54 billion.

Street rates, however, still move with cash demand, weekend settlement and the willingness of Bureau de Change operators to hold inventory. Quotes can differ by a few naira from one neighbourhood to another, and dealers typically tighten or widen the spread depending on how much physical cash is on hand.

For households and small businesses that cannot readily access bank allocations, the Aboki price remains the practical rate for school fees, travel, imports and remittances. A thousand dollars would cost about ₦1,410,000 on the street versus roughly ₦1,321,220 at the official mid-rate.

Traders and analysts will watch whether improved oil receipts and CBN interventions continue to cap further widening of the parallel premium, or whether seasonal demand pushes the informal dollar higher again before the week is out. Rates change through the day, so anyone exchanging cash is advised to confirm live quotes with more than one operator before completing a deal.
