National Grid: TCN Denies Nationwide Blackout Amidst Labor Strikes

Posted By Kaptain Kush

In response to reports of a nationwide blackout due to ongoing strikes by the National Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted these claims. The TCN assured the public that the national grid is fully operational and supplying bulk electricity to distribution companies.

The TCN spokesperson, Mrs. Ndidi Mba, issued a statement in Abuja, emphasizing that the National Control Centre Osogbo, responsible for overseeing bulk power transmission nationwide, is actively operational. Mba stated, “We hereby note that the nation’s grid is intact and supplying bulk electricity to distribution load centers nationwide.”

The strikes were initiated by the NLC and TUC following the assault on NLC president Joe Ajaero in Imo State on November 1. The attack occurred during an NLC protest against the Imo State government’s alleged maltreatment of workers. Despite the strikes, the TCN affirms that electricity transmission remains unaffected.
