A Renowned Indian steel tycoon, Sajjan Jindal, has unequivocally refuted allegations of sexual assault following an Indian court’s directive for a police investigation into a complaint lodged against him. The chairman of the JSW Group dismissed the accusations as “false and baseless” in an official statement and pledged his cooperation with the ongoing police inquiry.

In his personal capacity, Jindal released a statement refraining from further comments during the ongoing investigation. Mumbai media reports confirmed that the police are actively probing sexual assault allegations, including rape, against the 64-year-old industrialist. JSW Steel shares experienced a 1.4% decline on the first trading day following the public revelation of the allegations.

The Mumbai police verified the filing of a First Information Report (FIR), signifying the commencement of an investigation into the allegations. The complainant, protected by anonymity under Indian law, sought judicial intervention after the police initially hesitated to pursue the case.

According to Forbes, Sajjan Jindal is a prominent figure in India’s corporate landscape, with his family, led by matriarch Savitri Jindal, boasting a net worth of $29 billion. The JSW Group operates across diverse sectors, including cement, steel, energy, and logistics. Recently, the conglomerate expanded into the automobile industry through a joint venture agreement with China’s SAIC Motor.

As the chairman of JSW since 2011, Jindal is poised to benefit from India’s robust infrastructure development, positioning the country as one of the fastest-growing markets for steel. The JSW Group, alongside other influential conglomerates like Reliance Industries and the Tata Group, wields considerable influence over significant segments of the Indian economy.
