Early Life And Education

Samuel Awuku was born on April 10, 1984, in Koforidua, Eastern Region, Ghana, to Nana and Felicia Awuku. He is the youngest of five children and the only male among four sisters.

Awuku began his education at Nana Kwaku Boateng Experimental School in Koforidua and proceeded to St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast for his secondary education. Samuel pursued Political Science and Psychology at the University of Ghana, Legon.

Furthering his education, he obtained a Diploma in Law and a Diploma of Higher Education in Law from the University of London. He also earned an Executive Education Certificate in Public Leadership from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Additionally, Awuku holds postgraduate certificates in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and in Advertising, Marketing, and Public Relations from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

He is pursuing a master’s in International Relations at the Free University of Berlin in Germany. Ethnically, Awuku is Ghanaian and practices Christianity.

Career

Samuel Awuku’s political journey began at the University of Ghana, where he was actively involved in student politics and contested for the presidency of the Student Representative Council.

From 2011 to 2013, he served at the Communications Directorate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), assisting then-Director of Communications Nana Akomea. His dedication and leadership qualities led to his election as the NPP’s National Youth Organiser in April 2014.

In this role, Awuku played a pivotal part in mobilizing the youth, contributing significantly to the NPP’s victory in the 2016 general elections. His influence was recognized when he was ranked fifth among the 50 Most Influential Young Ghanaians in 2016.

Beyond his party roles, Awuku has held various positions in public service. In 2017, he was appointed as the Board Chairman of the National Youth Employment Agency (YEA), where he oversaw initiatives to reduce youth unemployment in Ghana.

His commitment to public service continued when he was appointed the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) in 2021. There, he implemented reforms to enhance transparency and efficiency within the organization.

Awuku’s influence expanded in the political arena as he was elected as the Member of Parliament for the Akuapem North Constituency, commencing his term on January 7, 2025.

In Parliament, he serves on several committees, including the Business Committee, the Public Administration and State Interests Committee (as Vice Chairperson), and the Human Rights Committee. His legislative focus encompasses governance, public administration, and human rights issues.
