Early Life and Education

Jay Park was born on April 25, 1987, in Edmonds, Washington, USA, to Korean parents Mi-Jung Choi and Yong-jun Park. He has a younger brother named Jehan Park. Growing up in the Seattle metropolitan area, he developed an early interest in hip-hop music and breakdancing.  

He attended Edmonds-Woodway High School, where he spent much of his time practicing dance with friends. In 2003, he became one of the founding members of the Seattle-based b-boy crew Art of Movement (AOM).

In 2004, his mother encouraged him to audition for JYP Entertainment, leading to his move to South Korea in 2005 for training in singing, dancing, rapping, and the Korean language. He later enrolled in Dankook University as a business administration major but did not complete his degree.
