Hannah Aidinal Al Rashid was born on 25 January 1986, in London, England, to Anne Marie Al Rashid, and Aidinal Hamzah Al Rashid. She is the second of three children, with an older brother, Irfan Al Rashid, and a younger brother, Khuddus Al Rashid.

She was raised in London and moved to Indonesia in 2008. She graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London, with a degree in Indonesian and Development Studies. She is of Bugis and French descent, while her religion is unknown.

Hannah Al Rashid began her career in Indonesia after initially planning to work for the United Nations Development Programme.
