His parents separated when he was three years old, and he grew up spending time between both households.
He grew up in Gamla Enskede and became involved in local theatre as a child. He attended the drama program at Södra Latin in Stockholm before continuing his professional training at the Malmö Theatre Academy, where he studied from 2001 to 2005.
Career
Jerka Johansson began performing at a young age through Enskedespelet and later made his television debut in 1994 as Benny in the Swedish children’s series Bert.
He continued acting during his teenage years and appeared in Julens hjältar in 1999 before taking the role of Torbjörn “Tobbe” Strömdahl in Eva & Adam.
After completing his theatre training in Malmö, Johansson developed a broader career in Swedish theatre, television and film. He appeared in productions such as Familjehemligheter, Stockholm Boogie, Sthlm and Behind Blue Skies.
His theatre experience also included performances at Teater Västernorrland and Stockholm City Theatre.
In 2013, Johansson joined the long-running crime series Maria Wern, taking the role of Sebastian Ståhl. The character became one of his recurring television roles, appearing across numerous seasons and helping establish him as a familiar face in Swedish television.
His biggest career breakthrough came in 2017 when he was cast as Patrik in the television drama Bonusfamiljen. The series became a major Swedish success and focused on relationships, divorce, parenting and blended families.
Johansson’s portrayal of Patrik became closely associated with the series, which ran for four seasons.
The success of Bonusfamiljen led to the feature film Länge leve Bonusfamiljen in 2022, allowing Johansson to reprise the role of Patrik on the big screen. He has described Patrik as the role that has felt most natural to him during his career.
Johansson has also expanded his work beyond acting. In 2021, he made his directorial debut on Alla utom vi, a television series in which he also served as a writer. He has since continued to combine acting, writing and directing.
His later credits include Orca, The Truth Will Out, Intrigo: Death of an Author, Before We Die, Helt perfekt, The Gambling Scandal and STHLM Blackout. In 2025, he appeared in Where the Sun Always Shines, while his long-running role in Murder in Sweden continued into 2026.
