Fyodor Viktorovich Dobronravov was born on 11 September 1961 in Taganrog, Russia, to Viktor Dobronravov, a construction worker father, and Lyudmila Dobronravova, a bread factory employee mother. He has an older sister named Lyubov and was a late child in the family.
As a youth, he excelled in basketball, boxing, volleyball, and diving, and attended a circus studio dreaming of becoming a clown. After two unsuccessful attempts to enter circus school, he served in the Soviet Airborne Forces from 1979 to 1981, reaching the rank of sergeant.
He later worked as a locksmith and kindergarten janitor. He graduated from the Voronezh State Institute of Arts in 1988, having created a student theater group called “Ruble” during his studies. His ethnicity is Russian, and his religious affiliation is unknown.
Career
Fyodor Dobronravov began his acting career after graduation at the Voronezh Youth Theatre. In 1990, Konstantin Raykin, artistic director of the Satirikon Theatre, discovered him during a casting call in Voronezh and invited him to Moscow.
Initially struggling, he washed floors at the Tretyakov Gallery and lived in a theatre dressing room. He joined the Satirikon troupe from 1990 to 2003, then moved to the Moscow Academic Theatre of Satire, where he became a leading actor and later directed two productions.
He made his film debut in 1993 under director Sergei Ursulyak, beginning a prolific screen career. Dobronravov achieved major recognition and nationwide fame with his portrayal of Ivan Budko, a lovable rural resident, in the comedy series Svaty (The In-Laws), which aired from 2008 to 2021.
The role made him a household name across Russia and Ukraine, endearing him to multiple generations. In 2011, he was awarded the title People’s Artist of Russia. His filmography expanded to include popular titles such as Zhili-byli (2018), Razvesely nas (2020), Cheburashka (2023), The Magic Airship (2024), and The First Warrior (2024), with upcoming appearances in Seven Versts Before Dawn (2026).
He has also voiced animated films, including The Snow Queen 2: The Winter Spell (2016). Later in his career, Dobronravov founded his own production center in 2016, producing films such as Zhili-byli, in which he also starred and served as producer.
He left the Theatre of Satire in 2020 due to heavy involvement in film and independent projects but returned in 2022. Despite suffering a stroke in March 2018, he underwent surgery and rehabilitation, returning to the stage that same April and resuming performances in 2025.
He has served as president of the Tsaritsyn Spring International Film Festival and artistic director of the “In the Family Circle” program, maintaining a legacy as one of Russia’s most beloved and enduring character actors.

Personal Life
Fyodor Dobronravov has been married to his wife Irina Dobronravova, a former kindergarten teacher, for nearly 45 years; they met as teenagers attending the same school. The couple has two sons, both of whom became actors: Viktor Dobronravov (born 1983) and Ivan Dobronravov (born 1989).
