Genndy Tartakovsky was born on January 17, 1970, in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union (now Moscow, Russia). He is of Russian Jewish ethnicity and was born to Boris Tartakovsky, a dentist who worked for Soviet government officials and the national ice hockey team, and Miriam Tartakovsky, an assistant principal at a school.
