James Cusati-Moyer was born on May 1, 1989, in Northampton, Pennsylvania, and was raised by his parents Mr. And Mrs. Moyer, in the Pennsylvania area.

Cusati-Moyer developed an interest in acting and pursued formal theatre training. He attended Marymount Manhattan College, graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting.

Cusati-Moyer began building his screen career with television appearances, including Blue Bloods, before expanding into theatre and film.

Cusati-Moyer made his Broadway debut in 2017 in the revival of Six Degrees of Separation.

Directed by Trip Cullman, the production starred Allison Janney and featured Cusati-Moyer as the Hustler. The production ran at the Barrymore Theatre from April to June 2017.

The Broadway appearance established him as a rising stage actor and opened the way to increasingly prominent theatre roles.

In 2018, Cusati-Moyer appeared Off-Broadway in Fire and Air at the Classic Stage Company. Written by Terrence McNally, the play explored the relationship between Russian ballet legends Sergei Diaghilev and Vaslav Nijinsky.

His performance earned him a 2020 Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play.
