Lal Jr. was born on June 2, 1988, in Kochi, Kerala, India. He is the son of Malayalam actor, director and producer Lal and Nancy Lal. He has one younger sister, Monica Lal. His cousin is actor Balu Varghese, who has also worked extensively in Malayalam cinema.

Career
Lal Jr. began his professional film career behind the camera. One of his early experiences in the industry was working as an assistant director on In Harihar Nagar 2, a film connected to his father Lal. This gave him practical experience before he moved into directing his own projects.
