Early Life

James Adam Belushi was born on June 15, 1954, in Chicago to Agnes Demetri (Samaras) and Adam Anastos Belushi, who owned a restaurant.

His father was an Albanian immigrant from Qytezë, and his mother was also of Albanian heritage.

Belushi was raised in the suburb of Wheaton, along with his three siblings: his older brother John Belushi (1949–1982), his older sister Marian Belushi, and his younger brother Billy Belushi.


In 1972, Jim Belushi completed his high school education at Wheaton Central High School in Wheaton, Illinois.

His passion for theater was sparked during a speech performance in the fall of 1969. Subsequently, he studied theater at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, where he gained valuable early experience.

Jim then obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Theater Arts from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1978, where he further developed his skills and secured leading roles in university productions.
