Early Life

Mark Consuelos’s early life was a blend of international influences and an American upbringing.

He was born in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1971 to an Italian mother and Mexican father. He is the youngest of three children, with a doctor brother and a lawyer sister.

He spent his early years in Italy, learning Italian as his first language. At age five, his family immigrated to the United States. He grew up in Lebanon, Illinois, and later Tampa, Florida.

He learned English by watching American television, including the soap opera All My Children, which he’d later star in.


Mark attended Valrico, Florida’s Bloomingdale High School.

He attended the University of Notre Dame to begin his college career before moving to the University of South Florida. Earned a degree in marketing in 1994, but acting quickly became his main focus.


Consuelos starred in the academic serial Connect With English, which aired on public TV stations as part of the Annenberg/CPB Project.

In the early 1990s, Consuelos became a dancer with the Suncoast Calendar Men, a group primarily based in Clearwater, Florida.

They have three children together: Michael Joseph (born 1997), Lola Grace (born 2001), and Joaquin Antonio (born 2003).
