Neil Fitzmaurice was born on 20 August 1969 in Liverpool, England, United Kingdom, to parents referred to as Mr. and Mrs. Fitzmaurice. He is the youngest of four brothers, including Tony Fitzmaurice.
He grew up in Liverpool’s Anfield area and attended Anfield Comprehensive School. A lifelong Liverpool FC supporter, he survived the Hillsborough disaster in 1989. He is of British origin and Christian.

Neil Fitzmaurice began his career in the early 1990s with appearances in British television, including a recurring role in Brookside.
He gained recognition as a writer through collaborations with Peter Kay, co-writing That Peter Kay Thing (for which he received a British Comedy Award) and the critically acclaimed Phoenix Nights (2001–2002), in which he also starred as the disc jockey Ray Von. He appeared as Alex in the first series of The Office, starred in the prison drama Buried, and took leading roles in dramas such as Mobile.
