Nick Cordero was born on September 17, 1978, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, to Eduardo Cordero and Lesley Cordero, both of whom worked as teachers. His father was originally from Costa Rica, while his mother was Canadian. He grew up alongside two siblings, Amanda Cordero and Matt Cordero and developed an interest in performing during his youth.
Nick Cordero graduated from Westdale Secondary School before attending Ryerson University in Toronto for two years. He eventually left university to perform professionally and joined the band Lovemethod.
Career
Nick Cordero began his professional theatre journey in Toronto before moving to New York City in 2007. One of his earliest major stage opportunities came in the Off-Broadway musical The Toxic Avenger, where he played the title character. He later joined the national tour of Rock of Ages and subsequently appeared on Broadway in the same production.
His major breakthrough arrived in 2014, when he played Cheech in Bullets Over Broadway. The performance earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, along with Drama Desk recognition, while he also won the Outer Critics Circle Award and Theatre World Award for the role.
Nick Cordero went on to portray Earl in Waitress and Sonny in A Bronx Tale, receiving another Drama Desk nomination for the latter.
