Omar Doom was born on June 29, 1976, in Easton, Pennsylvania. He was born to Dr. Rashid Makhdomi and Jawahira Makhdomi, whose family roots are in Kashmir. His ethnicity is Kashmiri. He grew up alongside two sisters, including Saira Makhdomi, and his family regularly attended cultural events, plays, operas, and art-house films.
He later studied painting at Parsons School of Design in New York City and also spent time studying at Parsons Paris. He eventually earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. His artistic education became an important foundation for his later work in visual art, fashion, music, and film.

Omar Doom began exploring music during his teenage years, fronting the band Ordeal while attending high school. After studying at Parsons, he worked on artwork for the clothing line Diabla, which he created alongside his sister Saira, and later performed in the electronic-rock duo Doomington alongside DJ Stretch Armstrong.
His acting career began after Quentin Tarantino encouraged him to pursue film. Tarantino cast him as Nate in Death Proof in 2007, followed by the role of Pfc. Omar Ulmer in Inglourious Basterds in 2009. Doom later appeared in Higher Power, The Maestro, and Tarantino‘s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Music has remained a major part of his creative career. Under the name STRAIGHT RAZOR, he produces dark electronic, industrial, EBM, and techno music. He established Doom Vision Records and released Casualty in 2024. His recent releases include “Obsession” featuring Bonnie McKee in 2025 and “One Hundred Years” in 2026.
