Reggie Yates came into the world on May 31, 1983 in Archway, London, England, to Ghanaian parents Felicia Asante and Reginald “Jojo” Yates.

He grew up in North London on the Mersey Estate on Liverpool Road, alongside his older sister Cerise and half-siblings from his parents’ later marriages.

Yates attended Central Foundation Boys’ School in Cowper Street, Islington, before completing his A-levels at City and Islington College’s Goswell Road campus from 1999 to 2001.

Reggie Yates began his entertainment career at the age of eight, making his first television appearance in the Channel 4 sitcom Desmond’s after being sent to an audition by Anna Scher‘s talent agency.

He followed this with appearances in The Disney Club as Robbie and as a guest presenter on CITV’s Diggit in 1998.

In 2002, he played Carl Fenton in the children’s series Grange Hill and began presenting the Sunday morning programme Smile alongside Fearne Cotton.
