Early Life & Education

In Santa Monica, California, Robert Redford was born Charles Robert Redford, Jr. to Martha Hart and Charles Robert Redford. He has a brother named William Redford.

He is of Scottish-Irish origin, and his family moved to Van Nuys, California, when he was a child. Aged 87 years, he was born on the 18th of August in 1936. 

Robert Redford attended Van Nuys High School. He was never particularly bright academically, but he enjoyed the arts and athletics. 

After high school, he attended the University of Colorado and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. 

Before studying painting at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, Robert Redford traveled around Europe and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
