Xu Bin (born February 19, 1989) is a Chinese actor and TV personality based in Singapore and has taken the local entertainment industry by storm over the past year. 

He has also been named as one of the 8 Dukes of Caldecott Hill, and his management company, NoonTalk Media, revealed that he earned S$2.7 million in 2013 alone.

The Chinese actor has been taking Singapore by storm with his stellar acting performances in popular dramas such as Timeless Love and It Takes Two, among others. Xu Bin has impacted the entertainment scene, getting nominated for Favorite Male Character by Star Awards in 2013.

Early Life & Education

Xu Bin was born on February 19th, 1989. He was raised in Fuzhou, Fujian, China. He relocated to Singapore at the age of 16 in pursuit of his studies.

When he was still a resident of China, his parents gave him a jumpstart on his studies by enrolling him in school two years earlier than his peers. However, his grades are an eyesore. His poor performance worried his mother, so she flew him to Singapore to complete his studies. According to Xu Bin, the only thing he knew how to read was the alphabet.

When he was 17 years old, Xu Bin competed in Singapore’s Campus SuperStar singing competition on behalf of the Woodlands Ring Secondary School; however, he was eliminated in the first round.

Xu Bin graduated from Temasek Polytechnic in 2012, the same year he was cast in the Singaporean film Timeless Love.

Personal Life

On November 3, 2017, Xu Bin and Wang Yifei held their first wedding ceremony in Singapore. Two more ceremonies were afterward organized in their respective hometowns of Fujian and Wuhan.

On the other hand, his wife decided not to work in the entertainment industry after earning her degree from the Beijing Film Academy. Instead, she joined her family’s real estate company.

On July 10, 2018, Xu Bin announced the arrival of his son, Ethan Xu. Aloysius Pang, who had been asked to help in naming the child in English, had chosen Ethan as one of the English names to be considered before he passed away.

On March 12, 2021, Xu Bin announced the arrival of his second child, a daughter called Elyse Xu. 

Career

Xu Bin won the Singapore Star Awards for Favorite Male Character in 2013, barely one year after he debuted in the entertainment industry. He was up against veteran and prominent actors but won by a slim margin of votes. This was a momentous achievement for Xu Bin, who had only started acting in 2012. It clearly showed that he had talent and charisma and was a force to be reckoned with in the industry.

Since then, Xu Bin has gone on to star in many popular dramas and movies, cementing his status as one of the most popular actors in Singapore. He has also won numerous other awards, including the Singapore Top 10 Most Popular Male Artists Award in 2016.

There is no doubt that Xu Bin is a superstar in the making, and we cannot wait to see it. He and Julie Tan were nominated for the Star Awards 20’s Most Favorite On-Screen Couple award in 2014. 

In 2015, Xu Bin released a solo single titled Fraction. Additionally, he participated in the Bring It On! It’s Class! internet variety show. He was also chosen to serve as Beijing 101 Hair Consultants‘ spokesperson in 2020.
