A. J. Cook (born  22 July 1978), sometimes known as Andrea Joy Cook, is a well-known actress and TV personality from Canada. She is well recognized for her part as a Supervisory Special Agent named Jennifer Jareau in the CBS police crime thriller Criminal Minds.

The program debuted in 2005 and is in its thirteenth season as of 2017. A. J. Cook, who was born in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, showed an early propensity for acting. She made her acting debut in the TV show Goosebumps, playing a cameo part. With the drama film The Virgin Suicides from 1999, she made her acting debut. But the movie wasn’t all that successful.

She began making appearances the following year in the American-Canadian drama series Higher Ground, in which she portrayed one of the main characters. A. J. Cook began appearing in the police crime thriller Criminal Minds a few years later, which brought her tremendous fame and fortune. 

The show is arguably her most significant piece of work to date. She has also had appearances in a number of well-known movies throughout the years, including Final Destination 2 and Least Among Saints.

Early Life & Education

A. J. Cook was born on July 22, 1978, to parents Mike Cook and Sandra Cook in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Nathan Cook, Paul Cook, and Angela Cook are the names of her three siblings. 

She was raised close to Whitby, an Ontario city, and went to Anderson Collegiate Vocational Institute

A. J. Cook was legally pronounced blind at a young age due to severe astigmatism. She rectified her vision, though, using contacts and heavy glasses. She later needs surgery as well. 

She began dancing as a child and has studied jazz, tap, and ballet. Before deciding to try her luck in acting, she had originally intended to run a dance studio.


The Goosebumps TV series, which was based on the well-known Goosebumps horror storybook series by American author R. L. Stine, gave A. J. Cook his first acting role. The TV movies His Father’s Shoes and Elvis Meets Nixon were where she made her subsequent appearances. 

She made her acting debut in the drama movie The Virgin Suicides in 1999. She rose to fame the following year as a result of her portrayal as one of the main characters in the film Higher Ground. The show’s US ratings were low despite its compelling plot. A. J. Cook starred in the 2005 television horror film Bloodsuckers, which was helmed by Matthew Hastings. The same year she began her role in Criminal Minds, which has so far been her most notable project. 

The program was a tremendous hit and received multiple nominations and awards. Positive feedback was given to it. She made an appearance in Zackary Adler‘s romantic comedy I’m Reed Fish from the year 2006. The movie received mostly positive reviews. 

After that, A. J. Cook played a significant part in the 2007 horror movie Night Skies. The Roy Knyrim-directed movie was about a group of friends who are abducted by aliens while traveling to Las Vegas.

She also had a small part in the psychological horror movie Mother’s Day. Her most recent roles were in the movies Wer in 2013 and Least Among Saints in 2012, both of which she portrayed in a supporting capacity.
