Early Life and Education
Alisha Abdullah came into the world on 24 July 1989 in Chennai, India. Of Asian ethnicity and raised in a Muslim household by her parents, RA Abdullah and Wendy Abdullah, she is an only child.
Her father, a seven-time national motorcycle racing champion, introduced her to motorsport from a young age.
She began indoor karting around the age of nine or ten and quickly progressed to competitive success.
Abdullah attended St. Kevin’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, graduated from M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women with a degree in sociology, and completed postgraduate studies at Loyola Institute of Business Administration in Chennai.
Career
Alisha Abdullah started racing in go-karts as a child and won the MRF National Go-Karting Championship at the age of 13, also earning the Best Novice Award in national-level formula car racing.
She moved into formula car competition and finished fifth in the JK Tyre National Racing Championship in 2004 while still a teenager.
On her 18th birthday her parents gifted her a superbike, prompting a focused shift into motorcycle racing.
She competed successfully against male riders in national superbike events, finishing third overall in the JK Tyre National Superbike Racing Championship in 2009 and securing podium results in the National Road Racing Championship.
Abdullah later expanded into car racing series such as the Volkswagen National Polo Cup, where she achieved consistent top-ten finishes and podium results while competing against male drivers.
In 2014 she became the first Indian woman to record a podium finish in an international motorsport event at the Toyota Vios Cup in Thailand.
She returned to competition after injury setbacks and claimed the National Women Racing Championship in 2017.
Throughout her career she has balanced bike and car disciplines, establishing herself as a pioneering figure in Indian motorsport.
Beyond driving, Abdullah founded the Alisha Abdullah Racing Academy to identify and train young talent, particularly encouraging women in the sport.
She has appeared in the Tamil film Irumbu Kuthirai (2014) and received recognition from national leaders, including felicitation as a “First Lady” in Indian motorsports.
