Beth Ditto first saw the light of day on February 19, 1981, in Searcy, Arkansas, to her mother, Velmyra Estel.
She grew up in the small town of Judsonia, Arkansas, and took the surname of Homer Ditto, the man who helped raise her.
She was the middle child of seven children, including her brother Robert Ditto.

The band released their debut album, That’s Not What I Heard, in January 2001, followed by Movement in 2003.
Their breakthrough came with the 2006 album Standing in the Way of Control, whose title track became an anthem for the LGBTQ+ community and was certified Gold in the UK.
The album’s success established Ditto as a powerful new voice in indie rock, and her unapologetic presence challenged mainstream beauty standards.
