Leisha Hailey was born on 11 July 1971 in Okinawa, then under the United States Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands, to American parents Robert Hailey, an Air Force navigator, and Jane Hailey, a nurse.
She has an older sister named Kaydra. The family settled in Bellevue, Nebraska, where she was raised. At the age of 17 she came out as a lesbian and moved to New York City to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She is of American origin, and her religion is Christianity.
Career
Leisha Hailey began her professional career in music while studying acting. In 1991 she formed the pop duo The Murmurs with classmate Heather Grody.
The group released several albums throughout the 1990s, including Who Are We, Pristine Smut, and Blender, and performed as part of the Lilith Fair tour. The pair later performed under the name Gush.
Hailey continued her music career by co-founding the electropop duo Uh Huh Her with Camila Grey in 2007; the band released albums including Common Reaction.
