Tumi Masemola (born 3 May 1982), often known as Tumi, is a musician, actress, and entrepreneur. Since time immemorial, she has been on top of her game, so she knows how to up her game, delivering her audience what they want to listen to.

She was the former lead singer of a group of Instrumentals, a chart-topping urban ensemble.

She is also an executive producer and a co-founder of Black Brain Pictures. Black Brain Pictures is an award-winning communication and content production firm.

Early Life

Tumi Masemola is a South African N.Sotho (Pedi) girl that was born and raised in Soweto, South Africa on the 3rd of May 1982. Growing up for her wasn’t the best because she lacked some of the basic needs.

Although she is still very thankful for everything she has, the thespian once took to her Instagram page to appreciate her parents for all the care and love they showed her while she was just a little girl.

Tumi Masemola revealed she had been a lover of reggae and hip-hop music ever since she was a youngster.”

According to her words, she said, “I like reggae songs because it makes me joyful, it makes me reflect on my true self, other genres of music cannot do that to me.”

Tumi Masemola further revealed that sometimes, when listening to reggae, she would pick up a pen and a book to pen down her thoughts when she was just a teenager.

Education

Tumi Masemola received a BA in Arts from AFDA (African School of Live Performance and Motion Picture) in 2002.

She started her basic education at the Bopanang Primary School in Diepkloof Zone. When South Africa was no longer an apartheid country, she proceeded to the Sacred Heart College in Observatory, where she completed her grade 7.

She further enrolled at Sir John Adamson High School, developing her musical aptitude as a school choir member.

Personal Life

Everything used to be perfect for Tumi Masemola in her matrimonial home until everything came crashing like a landslide. Tumi Masemola and her ex-husband, Mandla N were happily married until their marriage hit the rock.

This period happens to be one of the most arduous and most trying moments for her because her estranged husband also accused her of stealing a whopping 4.5m Rands from his account.

Details of what led to the divorce of the two lovebirds are still very sketchy. But Tumi Masemola took her time to debunk some of the allegations laid on her by her erstwhile husband. Tumi Masemola said all the allegations made by Mandla Ngcongwane were untrue, claiming that Mandla N. made all of those vile comments about her to look innocent.

After her ordeal, she revealed how she had to start over again and what she learned from what transpired between her and Mandla N.

She said, “It was a dreadful experience.” I never expected to go back to where I started from, but it was a choice I had to make.” she also revealed that she went to live with her mother after the incident.

According to Tumi Masemola, she said, “It’s challenging living with her mom because she couldn’t live the luxurious life she was used to, in her mom’s house.” When you achieve a certain level of success, you get obsessed with it. You believe you are superior to others and take certain things and people for granted.” This experience humbled me and changed my outlook on life, she narrated.

Career

Tumi Masemola made a solo debut in 2015, releasing two singles, titled Sugar Free, featuring Nadia Nakai and BAE with Kwesta.

She formed the band group of Instrumentals in 2017, and they published three albums: ‘Kasi Flava,’ ‘Salute,’ and ‘Round 3‘. The group she formed had groundbreaking successes.



Some of their works that were topping charts include ‘Woza December‘ and ‘My Number One,’ and in 2009, they were given a SAMA (South African Music Award) for the best urban-pop album.
