Agnieszka Smoczyńska was born on 18 May 1978 in Wrocław, Poland, to Mr. and Mrs. Smoczyńska. She grew up with two brothers; her mother worked in restaurants and dance venues, and her father was an economist.
She attended a film-focused class at a Wrocław high school before studying art history at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and cultural studies at the University of Wrocław.
