He later directed episodes of Narcos: Mexico before returning to feature filmmaking with Lost in the Night in 2023. The film premiered at Cannes and follows a young man searching for answers surrounding his activist mother’s disappearance.

In 2026, Escalante also directed two episodes of the television series Sugar, expanding his work into contemporary international television.
