Early Life & Education

Chosen Becky, born on February 20, 2000, in Masaka, Uganda, comes from a deeply religious background, with her father serving as a pastor and her mother a devout born-again Christian. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kukiriza, instilled strong Christian values in her. She has two sisters, Ruth Kuganja and Dona Kukiriza.

This spiritual foundation is evident in Chosen Becky‘s music, which incorporates gospel themes that resonate with her fans. Despite her youth, she has already carved a niche in the Ugandan music industry, enchanting audiences with her uplifting melodies.

Chosen Becky attended Nyendo Primary School for her early education, followed by St. Anthony Kayunga for her secondary education. After completing her senior four education at St. Anthony Kayunga, financial constraints prevented her from pursuing A-level studies, as her mother couldn’t afford the required fees. 

Faced with these challenges, Chosen Becky sought alternative options to support herself. Eventually, she ventured to Masaka with Mr. Kyanja, who offered her a job opportunity in Mpigi. This marked the beginning of her work experience involving the packaging of petroleum jelly.

Career

Chosen Becky hails from a musically inclined family, with her sister Dona Kukiriza being a well-known singer. Upon completing her primary education, there was a void in continuing Dona‘s musical legacy. Recognizing Chosen Becky‘s familial ties and evident potential, a trainer sought her out to impart singing skills. Through hard work and dedication, she honed her singing proficiency by the time she graduated from P7. After finishing senior four, she secured a job in Masaka, where she continued to refine her musical talents.

During this period, Joseph Kiwangwa, the proprietor of NIK Cosmetics, discovered Chosen Becky‘s talent during a cosmetics campaign in Masaka. She was selected for a music project, leading to her connection with the management team at NIK Production. 

Relocating to Kampala and residing in Masajja, she collaborated with producer Nessim Pan Production to record her debut single, Bankuza, with the assistance of Mr. Joseph. The song, written by Nince Henry, gained considerable popularity upon release, prompting Becky‘s management team to appoint Victor Kamenyo as her official manager.

Bankuza‘s success led NIK Production to organize Chosen Becky‘s first-ever concert despite having only two songs, Bankuza and Byabangi. The concert proved a resounding success, showcasing Becky‘s remarkable stage presence and vocal prowess, leaving the audience spellbound.

In 2019, Chosen Becky made a strategic move by departing from her previous management at NIK Production and officially joining David Lutalo‘s management team. This decision opened doors to valuable resources and opportunities, including access to recording studios under David Lutalo‘s guidance. The collaboration went further, with David Lutalo crafting a song for Chosen Becky. This partnership with David Lutalo signified a promising future for her musical career.

Personal Life

At 24 years old and a mother of three, Chosen Becky openly shared intimate details about her family. She disclosed that she became a mother at 16 when she had her first child, Hrim JJAGWE. Ronald JJAGWE, a photographer at the time, was the father of her firstborn, and she spoke about falling in love with him. Her first boyfriend was David Kimera.

During an appearance on NBS Television’s Uncut gossip show with Anna Talia Oze, Chosen Becky recounted the story of her romance with the village photographer in Masaka and the birth of her first child. While in her S.3 in Masaka, she developed a romantic relationship with the school photographer, Ronald JJAGWE, resulting in the birth of their child, Hrim JJAGWE.

In 2023, Chosen Becky, alongside her husband, Amir Mutebi, also known as Dictator Amir, welcomed their third child, Jibran Nsubuga Mutebi. This addition followed the birth of their firstborn, Heather Mutebi Amir, born in May 2019.
