He confessed that although he might have gone too far with the statement, he saw no need to be hung on the cross and forced to amend the bible or church regulations, in his own words.

Joshua Maponga ended up in court when the South African Human Rights Commission hauled him because of what he said. He made the utterance on 13 January during a service at the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), KwaMagxaki.

According to the Zimbabwean Observer on July 27, 2020, the renowned pastor has been suspended by the Seven Days Adventist Church (SDA). Joshua Maponga has been a proponent of Christian faith decolonization.

He claims that it portrays a white Jesus and white society and that the Christian messiah was not a caricature colonial Christian figure.

The Church expressed concerns about the content of the PastorJoshua Maponga gospel and the manner in which it was communicated in a letter signed by Michael Rugube Ngwaru.
