Early Life and Education
Nyjah Music was born in 2009 and grew up on Oʻahu’s North Shore, Hawaii. His mother, Tahiti Hernandez Kemper, and his father, Joshua Sojot, raised him before his mother later married professional surfer Billy Kemper.
Nyjah grew up alongside his younger brother, Zyah Rhythm, and later became part of a blended family that includes his younger brothers, Hazey Kemper and Lion Rose. Public sources identify Nyjah and Zyah as Tahiti’s older sons.
Nyjah comes from a strongly musical family and has Puerto Rican, Filipino, and Spanish heritage through his maternal family. His mother, Tahiti Hernandez Kemper, was a member of the R&B group The Lylas, while his uncle is Grammy-winning singer Bruno Mars.
His extended family has therefore provided a strong musical environment from childhood, although Nyjah and Zyah have developed their own identity as performers.
Music naturally became part of Nyjah’s childhood. He and Zyah have recalled family karaoke sessions, singing alongside their grandmother and learning songs such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “You Are My Sunshine.”
The brothers also learned to play the ʻukulele, while their performances later expanded to include keyboard and guitar. Nyjah has described singing as part of his life from an early age.
His musical interests developed around R&B, Hawaiian music, reggae and ballads, reflecting both his family background and his life on Oʻahu. Nyjah and Zyah write about their North Shore upbringing and draw on their surroundings for inspiration. Their musical style combines contemporary R&B vocals and harmonies alongside elements of Hawaiian and island music.
Nyjah has followed an educational path that supports his developing music career, while much of his teenage life remains centred on family, music, and Hawaiʻi’s outdoor culture.
He and Zyah have also developed interests connected to their island upbringing, including surfing and other outdoor activities.
His childhood experiences, family music sessions and close relationship with Zyah eventually became the foundation for their professional sibling duo.
Career
Nyjah Music began performing publicly alongside Zyah Rhythm, initially attracting attention for covers of old-school R&B songs, Hawaiian melodies and emotional ballads.
The brothers eventually formed Nyjah Music & Zyah Rhythm, building an online audience before moving into original songwriting and professional performances. They released their first major original single, “The Island Girl Is Mine,” in November 2024.
The brothers expanded their public profile in 2024 after appearing in the Gap and GapKids Holiday campaign, where they performed an a cappella rendition.
Their online presence continued to grow as they shared covers and original material, while live appearances around Hawaiʻi gave Nyjah more experience performing for larger audiences.
In 2025, Nyjah and Zyah released several original songs, including “Love Slow,” “Always on My Mind,” “My Heart Is Yours,” and “You Should Be.” They also joined Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch soundtrack after recording “Burning Love,” the Elvis Presley classic.
The recording was produced by their uncle Bruno Mars and became one of the duo’s biggest releases, eventually accumulating millions of Spotify streams.
Nyjah continued performing at major Hawaiʻi events, including the Ko Olina Children’s Festival, where the brothers performed in support of Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children.
They also performed alongside the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra and appeared at other island events. In 2026, their catalogue expanded further, including releases such as “Be My Baby,” “Waste No Time,” and “Heartbeat.”
Nyjah reached a much wider audience in 2026 when he and Zyah auditioned for America’s Got Talent Season 21. They performed their original song “Heartbeat” during the June 9, 2026 audition and received four yes votes from the judges.
They advanced through the Judges’ Callbacks and reached the live shows, where they performed “I Swear” during the August 25, 2026 quarterfinals. Their AGT appearance became a major milestone in Nyjah’s young career.
