Pritam Chakraborty was born on 14 June 1971 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. His parents are Prabodh Chakraborty, who ran a music school and worked as a radio artist/insurance officer, and Anuradha Chakraborty. Siblings are unknown.

He attended St. James’ School, Kolkata, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Geology from Presidency College, Calcutta.
