The Weeknd is a talented artist from Canada who was born on February 16, 1990, in the vibrant city of Toronto, Ontario. Unfortunately, his parents, Makkonen Tesfaye and Samrawit Hailu, who were both immigrants from Ethiopia, decided to part ways shortly after his birth. 

As a result, he was raised by his mother and grandparents in the Scarborough area. Growing up in this diverse community, The Weeknd formed a strong bond with his two younger siblings, Sam Tesfaye and Bella Tesfaye. 

Throughout his formative years in Scarborough, The Weeknd attended both West Hill Collegiate Institute and Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute.

Career

After joining Republic Records in 2012, The Weeknd‘s first studio album, Kiss Land (2013), achieved commercial success. However, his second album, Beauty Behind the Madness (2015), catapulted him into global stardom. The album produced chart-topping singles such as Can’t Feel My Face, Earned It, and The Hills, earning him a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
